Acer Palmatum Dissectum Orangeola, dissectum meaning the leaves are deeply divided and not webbed leaves. These leaves can be sub-lobed into 7 - 9 leaves, this gives the Orangeola depth.
The Acer Palmatum Dissectum Orangeola is one of the most spectacular in the Dissectum class and it has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
The Orangeola is a stand up tree, growing up to 8 feet tall with a wonder canopy spanning 6 - 8 feet. If kept in a pot, this will restrict its growth, the Orangeola in the picture is 25 - 30 years old which is 4ft tall with a 6ft canopy (it has been very happy kept in its pot, re-potting every 5 years and fed every spring).
In the spring the leaves start mainly red with some, not all, having green centers and red edges, some have green undertones, this contrast makes it remarkable. In the video, you can see when the wind blows the different leaves complement each other. In the summer the green shades turn Orange, this gives it a stunning fire glow effect and as autumn approaches the orange spreads outwards and it glows orange before the fall.
The Orangeola bark is what i like to call snake bark, as its colourings resemble snake skin markings, its main colour is light brown but its main characteristics are the 1 inch vertical lime green veins with orange tinted centers which are mosaic-ed throughout the bark. It has thin red branches which are very delicate, they can easily break in high winds or if you brush past them.
The Acer Palmatum Dissectum Orangeola is a truly remarkable specimen and is a proud center piece to any garden, it enjoys full sun but preferably in part shade, facing east or west, giving it morning or afternoon sun. It is very happy in a pot or container which can be displayed on your patio in the summer and easily moved to a more sheltered area in the winter.
