and it is not hard to see why. You see this one is full of seed, so with a bit of luck in a couple of years I can grow a few on.
The Adult Acer Palmatum Dissectum Rubifolium is a shrub like Japanese Maple tree, low in height with a long / large spread. The adult tree can reach 1.5 meters in height with a spread of 3 to 5 meters. Its structure is very densely branched with long horizontal weeping branches supported by lovely clusters of Dissected Leaves. Ours in the picture and video is between 15 to 20 years old and still in its pot, one planted out will flourish quicker. An Adult will take 20 years to reach its full potential.
The Japanese Maple, Acer Palmatum Dissectum Rubifolium is a hybrid from the Netherlands and it is a relatively new variety.
The Acer Palmatum Dissectum Rubifolium has a wonderful spectrum of coloured variegated leaves, which makes this a special dissectum. It is fawn brown bark in colour with light vertical veins of light to lime green emerging throughout the trunk and main branches. It has long thinner branches which are lime green in colouration, which support dense clusters of variegated leaves with different coloured stems, some red, green and red and green mixed coloured stems which add to the wonderful foliage.
The Acer Palmatum Dissectum Rubifolium has large leaves, approximately 12 cm by 12 cm, which are deeply cut variegated leaves of 7 to 9 lobes.
In the spring the leaves emerge with a large spectrum of green and red colours, some leaves red, some green, they all have a prominent green vein in the center. The leaves will slowly change to a stunning dark red in the Autumn and the stems will follow suit.
Planting in full sun or partial sun is preferable and it can handle leaf burn / sunburn and weathering very well. Be mindful of its spread when planting out, it makes a wonderful pond feature or center piece. If you keep it in its pot you can use it as a patio tree.
The Acer Palmatum Dissectum Rubifolium is a great addition to any Japanese garden, patio or courtyard.
