The Award winning Japanese Maple Acer Palmatum Dissectum Heart Beat is part of the Sapindaceae family. more info The Heart Beat has some controversy, the cultivar originated in Australia and exported to the USA is a dwarf maple similar to Inaba Shidare, the European cultivar from Holland, exported into the UK is more of a stand up tree. Our "Heart Beat" pictured and displayed in the video is the European cultivar. The leaves have the same characteristics, they have been grafted on to stand up cultivars. The Acer Palmatum dissectum Heart Beat is a fine dissectum, dissectum meaning the leaves are deeply divided and not webbed leaves. These leaves can be sub-lobed into 7 - 9 leaves, this gives the Heart Beat depth.

Heart Beat will grow to 2 to 3 meters tall and it will produce a stunning weeping canopy which will span 2 meters and droop / hang down about a meter. It is very happy to be potted which makes it an ideal patio, courtyard or Japanese garden tree.

The Acer Palmatum Heart Beat produces vibrant red coloured leaves in the early spring with green veins and green undertones, the green changes to red in the summer making it a pure red. In the autumn the leaves turn to a vibrant fire truck red.

It has an lime green bark with pale green / off white rings and speckles, it has the paper bark effect. the new upper branches are a yellow green and yellow brown colour, which turn brown and red towards the leaf clusters.

The Heart Beat is striking in the sun, especially in the autumn sun, making it a great addition to any garden.
